Five Ways a Broken Windshield Will Get Worse

cracked windshield

There are instances where cars experience a fissure or a deep scratch on the windshield. While this may not be much of a problem, there are instances where this simple scratch will deteriorate to the point where a windshield replacement becomes necessary.

While small fissures and deep scratches should not pose any threat, there are certain occurrences that will aggravate a broke windshield. Contained below are some of such occurrences.

Facors that will aggravate a broken windshield:
  1. Wetness: Given the fact that windshields are created from two sheets of glass with synthetic resin or plastic in the middle, it becomes clear that any fissure that is too deep will allow the entry of water into the middle thus affecting the synthetic resin and aggravating breaks.  Therefore, seemingly small fissures can be exacerbated by rain, snow, cleaning liquid and more. More so, the strength of the entre glass can be lowered significantly as water makes its way into fissures over time. When fissures are left unattended and water keeps entering into the glass, you can be sure that the overall quality of the glass will become weak and vulnerable. A situation that could have been handled with a simple repair may be aggravated to the point where a windshield replacement becomes imperative.
  2. Dust and filth: Dust and filth has the capacity to exacerbate a fissure on a windshield. As stated earlier, windshields are made of two sheets of glass that is joined together with a coatings of synthetic resin or plastic. Therefore, when dust and filth gets into the area between both glass sheets, the reaction is bound to weaken the coating and make the windshield increasingly vulnerable to cracks.
  3. Encountering bumps while driving: While it is unlikely that a small fissure on your windshield would begin to degenerate over time, there are certain occurrences that will make sure of that. One of such occurrences is encountering road bumps while driving. Any activity that exerts pressure on the car could cause a tiny fissure to get worse. When you drive on a deplorable road with plenty of bumps, the banging sound that is created by the bumps on the road will cause a small fissure to widen. In similar fashion, your slamming car doors and any other activity that puts pressure on your car will contribute to the widening of your windshield.
  4. Harsh weather: Harsh weather or sever atmospheric conditions could have a devastating impact on your windshield when there is a fissure. It is a known fact that harsh weather compromises windshield. While harsh weather is unlikely to have any profound effect on your windshield when it is intact, you can be sure that harsh weather could exacerbate fissures on your windshield. This is particularly true when the weather on the outside and inside are extreme opposite. One of the most effect ways to prevent more damage is to engage in windshield repair before the situation becomes terrible.
  5. Solar heat: The temperature created by the sun can have a profoundly negative effect on the fissure on your windshield. The heat is known to exacerbate fissures and make small scratches bigger. In cases where the heat is harsh, you can be sure that a windshield with fissures will be significantly affected.
It is highly recommended that a broken windshield is fixed before it deteriorates to point where a
windshield replacement is the only option. Is your windshield threatened by a fissure or deep scratch?

Many people take a little dent on the windshield very lightly but they should not because it is the windshield which protects everyone in the car from any fatal injury in case of an accident. So, repairing that minor crack is vital.

It's good to know that dust can make a crack in your windshield worse. My sister has been telling me about how a rock cracked hers the other day, and she wants to make sure that it doesn't get worse while she's driving. I'll share this information with her so that she can look into her options for professionals who can help her with windshield replacement.

I'm glad when you mentioned that it is highly recommended to get your auto glass repaired before it gets worse. My car just had some cracks when some stones hit the windshield as I drove on a highway last week. I will keep in mind looking for a reliable repair service as soon as possible so I won't have to replace the whole windshield if it gets worse.

I like what you said about solar heat can damage your windshield. I need to get a new windshield with a new tint. The tint I used to have has peeled off.
